Custom properties

Custom properties, often referred to as CSS variables, are versatile and therefore difficult to pair with guidelines. They require a conscious mind because they are meant to be used where the utilities and components don't cover the needs. While simple in nature, their usage areas are probably of the more complex kind. Meaning that custom properties are for when we build custom solutions.
